Welcome to the Zurich Trace Symposium 2027
January 11th, 2027
Zurich Trace was founded as a university-funded platform to unite efforts around the clinical development and in-human application of stable isotope tracing. This symposium is our first chance to bring the Swiss and international community working in this space together to share where the field stands today and where it’s heading.
The program covers lipid, energy, and amino acid metabolism, alongside technology development, with talks from invited speakers and from submitted abstracts, a keynote from Prof. Dr. L.J.C. van Loon (Maastricht University), and a panel discussion to close out the day. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re already working with isotope tracing or just getting started.

Professor of Physiology of Exercise and Nutrition · Head of M3-Research, Department of Human Biology, Maastricht University
Luc has an international research standing in the area of skeletal muscle metabolism (Web of Science profile). Current research in his laboratory focuses on the skeletal muscle adaptive response to physical (in)activity, and the impact of nutritional and pharmacological interventions to modulate metabolism in both health and disease. The latter are investigated on a whole-body, tissue, and cellular level, with skeletal muscle as the main tissue of interest.
To support the use of stable isotopes in biomedical research, Luc is also scientific coordinator of the Stable Isotope Research Centre (SIRC) at Maastricht University Medical Centre+.

The symposium will take place at the F&L Research Tower (Hörsaal B) of the Universitäts-Kinderspital Zürich – Eleonorenstiftung, Lenggstrasse 30, 8008 Zürich.
From Zürich HB
Take Tram 4 (direction Zurich, Rehalp) to the “Balgrist” stop, just a short walk from the research tower.
From Stadelhofen
Board the Forchbahn (S18) (direction Esslingen) directly from Stadelhofen station and get off at “Balgrist”.
